Melissa and I got into a whole bunch of debt prior to getting married. The weight of the debt felt suffocating and we didn’t know what to do about it.
Completely overwhelmed, I was ready to do what I normally would in those situations - as little as possible. I figured if I made my minimum payments, I could stick my head back in the sand (where it was before), and act like the debt didn’t exist! But Melissa had other plans…
Melissa wanted the debt gone, so she started educating herself on sound financial principles and ultimately pulled me in with her. Together, we began learning, growing and applying these new ideas to our life. And that was the best decision we ever made!
Since then, we’ve eliminated our debt and grown our net worth to over a quarter million dollars, all while growing our family, cash flowing education and living on a very modest income.
